2005 Goals,Personal with
2005 has come and gone. Time for one final checkup and a grading on how I did with my goals for the year.
Find a job
Score: A (
details) – Found a job in March, got a promotion and raise, then made a horizontal and vertical move within the company.
- Find a church
Score: C – Haven’t found a church home yet, but I did visit a lot of churches
- Have daily quiet time
Score: D – It’s only a D because I’ve gotten back into the routine of memorizing Bible verses this month. Otherwise, it would have been an F, something that will improve this year.
- Eat healthier
Score: B – I’m eating more fruits and smaller portions most of the time, but I can still improve
- Exercise regularly
Score: C – I play racquetball once, sometimes twice, a week, which is good, but I need to run or bike ride more often, to build up my stamina, and lift weights, to increase my muscle tone.
- Practice my guitar and sax
Score: D – Just didn’t happen. I do better in an ensemble setting, so it’s hard for me to practice the sax. I did break out the guitar some, though
Upgrade my blog software to the latest version
Score: A (
details) – Successfully upgraded and stayed upgraded throughout the year
- Redesign my website
Score: B – Released
4 new themes, but I still need to fix some of them up so they work in all browsers. There are two more that I hope to release in the coming months, too.
- Start my book
Score: F – Nada
- Keep in contact with “long lost” friends
Score: C – Did a pretty good job of getting and staying in contact with several “long lost” friends, even seeing some of them for the first time in years, but there are some others that it’s been harder to stay in contact with.
- Spend less time at the computer
Score: C – Hard goal to achieve considering I’m a “computer geek,” but I think I did a fairly decent job considering that.
- Cut back on TV
Score: D – Did pretty well for a while, during the summer months, but relapsed in the fall and winter.

Trying yet another church this weekend
- Have daily quiet time
Why is this so hard?!?
- Eat healthier
Still meeting this goal!
- Exercise regularly
I’ve gotten back into the routine of playing racquetball weekly, so that’s a step in the right direction. Now that the weather is cooling off, I’ll be geocaching more.
- Practice my guitar and sax
Blah, I’ve forgotten about this with everything that has gone on this month.

Yeah, right…Now that the new season is under way, there are just too many things to watch – Lost, Survivor, The Amazing Race, The Apprentice, Alias, Reds’ games, UK games, Battlestar Galactica and Firefly. At least I’m able to record them and watch them at my leisure, so I’m not sitting in front of the TV for hours at a time.

Find a job
- Find a church
No, not yet.
- Have daily quiet time
…
- Eat healthier
Still doing well with smaller portions and lots of fruit, but still haven’t gotten many veggies into the diet.
- Exercise regularly
Dodgeball season is over for now, so I’m gonna have to find something else to fill that void. Racquetball or tennis, anyone?
- Practice my guitar and sax
Practiced the guitar a little throughout the month, but not with the sax.

You’ll see at least one new design over Labor Day weekend.
- Start my book
Nothing yet
- Keep in contact with “long lost” friends
Blogs and the internet definitely help with this
- Spend less time at the computer
I’ve spent lots of time on the PC lately trying to get the new site themes ready to go, so I’m not doing so well on this one.
- Cut back on TV
Doing well, though still watching more than I feel like I should.

It’s time for another reality check on my 2005 goals.
Find a job
- Find a church
Still haven’t found a church but I’m getting back in the habit of going weekly and I’m starting to attend a Bible study during the week. Feels good for sure
- Have daily quiet time
Showed some promise at the beginning of the month, but it slipped as the month went by
- Eat healthier
Definite success with this. I’m eating smaller portions still, less snacks fruit. Now, if I could just get some more veggies into the diet, I’d be good to go.
- Exercise regularly
Still not where I want to be
- Practice my guitar and sax
Practiced some guitar the other day
Upgrade my blog software to the latest version
- Redesign my website
Other goals are more important than this one, and they are the reason this hasn’t been done.
- Start my book
I’m “thinking” on the ideas that I’ve had recently, but nothing written yet
- Keep in contact with “long lost” friends
Slipped with some while doing well with others.
- Spend less time at the computer
Good on this one! My “sessions” on the computer are less and shorter than before
- Cut back on TV
I think I’m doing well enough with this. Gotten hooked on some new shows, and a new season has started for some others, but I’m recording most of them and watching when convenient.

Keep me in your prayers concerning this
- Eat healthier
Doing better – Eating more fruit, snacking less and having smaller portions
- Exercise regularly
Biking, hiking, dodgeball, yard work…still want to have a daily routine of situps, stretching and some lifting, though.
- Practice my guitar and sax
Still collecting dust
Upgrade my blog software to the latest version

July 1st goal has come and gone, but that’s okay. Other goals are more important than this one, and they are the reason this hasn’t been done.
- Start my book
I’ll probably get around to this sometime in the fall. I’ve had some good ideas recently, though…
- Keep in contact with “long lost” friends
Saw some old Georgetown friends this past weekend.
- Spend less time at the computer
Keeping it at the level it was at last month, which is still a little more than I want but better than it was.
- Cut back on TV
Doing better, especially now that my fave shows have all had their season finales and the weather is nice. Basically, I’m watching the news, Reds’ games and maybe one or two other shows a week.

I’m still too stuck in a rut and daily habits to remember to do this. Need to change up the routine or something…
- Eat healthier
Doing better, but still snacking more than I want to
- Exercise regularly
Dodgeball started last week, had a game of ultimate frisbee recently with more to come, and I’ve been biking a couple times. This is the type of exercise I like, but it’s not on a daily basis, unfortunately.
- Practice my guitar and sax
Umm…

- Find a church
I’m seriously slacking on this. Since I work some Saturdays now, I end up sleeping in on Sunday, so that sure doesn’t help.
- Have daily quiet time
*sigh* Still have the hardest time making this a habit.
- Eat healthier
I’ve eaten worse in the past two weeks than I have in the long time. Don’t know what’s causing me to eat like this, but I’ve got to turn it around before it catches up to me.
- Exercise regularly
Went biking a couple times before the weather turned cold and miserable again. Nothing on a regular basis, though.
- Practice my guitar and sax
Umm…

Still doing well with this, thankfully. It’s been so great to get reaquainted with old friends.
- Spend less time at the computer
Doing okay with this for the most part. Some days I’ll be on longer than I should, but for the most part, I think I’m at a good place.
- Cut back on TV
Eh, still not where I want to be. I tend to turn the TV as background noise and I want to cut that out. I really only watch a handful of shows consistently, though, not including Reds’ games.

It’s time for another 2005 goals checkup.
Find a job
- Find a church
Haven’t felt the calling for a church yet. Hope I’m not ignoring it…
- Have daily quiet time
Still can’t manage to get in this habit. Keep me in your prayers
- Eat healthier
Not any worse than the last checkup, but not any better either
- Exercise regularly
Making a little progress, which should get better with the nicer weather
- Practice my guitar and sax
Umm…
Upgrade my blog software to the latest version
Second attempt at the upgrade was successful!
- Redesign my website
Got a couple of designs that are in the works, but nothing to show yet
- Start my book
Still don’t expect this one for a while
- Keep in contact with “long lost” friends
I would have to say this is the goal that I’m the most success with, and one of the most rewarding
- Spend less time at the computer
Definitely accomplishing this one, now that I’m back to work
- Cut back on TV
Overall, watching less TV since a good chunk of hours are filled with work, but still want to cut down on the amount of TV in the non-work hours.
