New Mattress

OK, I think it’s time I invest in a new mattress. I’m starting to feel springs in my back and don’t think I’m sleeping as well as I should. I’ve only had this mattress for 6 years and thought they lasted a lot longer, especially considering it’s just me. Guess not… It was a cheaper mattress, so I guess I got what I paid for.

So, based on some opinions that I’ve heard from family and friends, I’ve been thinking about shelling out the money for one of those sleep number mattresses. Any of you have one or know someone who does and can offer an opinion on it? Any other types/brands of mattresses that are recommended?

2006 Goals – July in Review

2006 Goal Tracking

  • Learn to whistle loudly using my fingers
Not as easy I thought it could be…
  • Learn three five card tricks
No new progress – still two down, three to go.
  • Learn five origami models
Completed – I’ve learned/relearned the crane, the flapping crane, the frog, the waterbomb and the iris.
  • Redecorate/organize my family room and den and spare bedroom
Finished the spare bedroom and I’m finished with the family room for the time being.
  • Get involved in a puppet team
I’ll be purchasing my first puppet this coming month.
  • Take a another small business development class
Completed – I went to the class “Secrets to Starting Your Own Business” in Feb. I’m waiting for the next round of free seminars offered by the SBDC at NKU
  • Get A+, i-Net+ and/or SAS certified
    No new progress.
  • Take a week-long vacation; visit another state/national park on my list
I’ve basically finalized when and where I’ll be going. I’m heading down to Shenandoah NP and the surrounding areas the third week of October. I hope to hike a section of the Appalachian Trial. (There’s 101 miles of the AT in Shenandoah.) Any one want to join me?
  • Find a church home
Still frustrated in the search. I’ve heard about a good church whose preacher teaches about the historical context as well as application to the modern world, but it’s almost an hour away…
  • Have a consistent daily quiet time
I’m starting to “feel” it again, which makes me happy.
  • Memorize 200 Bible verses
Only 60 left, and boy is my head getting full!
  • Swing dance once a month on average
    Haven’t gone since last month…
  • Be more punctual
I made it to every softball practice and game on time :-)
  • Run a 5K
    Completed

Common Cents

Only one of these images of a penny is correct. Which one is it?

I didn’t get it right, but was close… One small detail got me.

How To Save Two Seconds

Here’s a new method to tie your shoe that can save you two whole seconds!

I’ve practiced and can do it now, but it’ll take more practice before it actually saves me all that time. :-) My main issue, which I’m sure will go away with time, is that I can’t get it tight enough.

UK Announces Non-Conference Schedule

UK LogoThe University of Kentucky Men’s Basketball team has announced their non-conference schedule

  • Nov 02 – Lindsey Wilson (exh. at Lexington, KY)
  • Nov 06 – South Carolina Upstate (at Lexington, KY)
  • Nov 15 – Miami, Ohio (at Lexington, KY)
  • Nov 17 – Mississippi Valley State (at Lexington, KY)
  • Nov 20 – Maui Invitational
  • Nov 21 – Maui Invitational
  • Nov 22 – Maui Invitational
  • Nov 28 – College of Charleston (at Lexington, KY)
  • Dec 02 – North Carolina (at Chapel Hill, N.C.)
  • Dec 05 – Chattanooga (at Louisville, KY)
  • Dec 09 – Indiana (at Lexington, KY)
  • Dec 16 – Louisville (at Louisville, Ky.)
  • Dec 19 – Santa Clara (at Lexington, KY)
  • Dec 22 – Massachusetts (at Lexington, KY)
  • Dec 29 – Eastern Kentucky (at Lexington, KY)
  • Jan 03 – Houston (at Lexington, KY)
    • Other than the Maui Invitational (which includes Memphis, UCLA, Oklahoma and Georgia Tech) and the traditional games against UL, IU, UNC, this looks like a very easy schedule to me, one of the easiest in the past several years. I think that’s a good thing, though, considering how poorly the team did with NC schedule last year. I’m definitely not getting up my hopes this year, but who knows…maybe they’ll surprise. The freshman and sophomore better step it up, considering how many players we’ve lost since last season.

Knights of the Round Table Meet Star Trek TOS

I’ve seen maybe half of an episode of Star Trek in my life, but I still found this funny…

Cowabunga, Dude?

I grew up on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The movies, cartoons, video games, etc.

On 30 March 2007, the TMNT saga continues

Watch the Teaser Trailer.

TMNT4

Yes, it’s animated. The graphics look nice, but it’s not going to be anything like the original. And no Shredder?!? I’m doubtful on how good this will turn out to be…

Human Space Invaders, Pong

Wow, this took some time, patience and planning to pull off…

Guillaume Reymond and his collaborators at NOTsoNOISY created this amazing stop-motion video of space invaders. Sixty-seven people act as the “pixels.” The three minute video took 4 hours to film. It was a project for the festival Belluard Bollwerk International earlier this month in Fribourg, Switzerland. Last year, the group produced a similar piece based on Pong.

Chad Vader, Day Shift Manager

Hah, I couldn’t not post this!

Life is hard when you’re Darth Vader’s less-talented, less-charismatic younger brother and you manage a grocery store.
