So, You Think You Know Me?

A lot of my friends have been making quizzes at QuizYourFriends.com, so I thought I’d jump on the bandwagon, too. Take my Quiz! It shouldn’t be all that hard, but it will test how well you’ve paid attention :-)

16 Things that Really Annoy Most Web Users

Real Tech News reports on the 16 Things that Really Annoy Most Web Users

Annoying

I agree that popups are incredibly annoying, but they don’t bother me since I’m a Firefox users. So, since that’s not #1 on my list, I would definitely move the “registration” annoyance to the top. There is a website, bugmenot.com, that helps out with this, but it’s still very annoying to me. Number two on my list is ads, especially the animated ads, that are on found on most websites these days. Thankfully, Firefox has a plugin that is helping me “clean up” the sites that over do it. “Requiring installation of extra software to view the site” is also up there on my list, as is out of date content.

What are your top annoyances?

What’s Your Humor Style?

Take the The 3 Variable Funny Test to find your style of humor.

Me? I’m considered “The Ham.”

Your Humor Style:
CLEAN | SPONTANEOUS | LIGHT

Your style’s mostly goofy, innocent and feel-good. Perfect for parties and for the dads who chaperone them. You can actually get away with corny jokes, and I bet your sense of humor is a guilty pleasure for your friends. People of your type are often the most approachable and popular people in their circle. Your simple & silly good-naturedness is immediately recognizable, and it sets you apart in
this sarcastic world.

PEOPLE LIKE YOU: Will Ferrell – Will Smith

Humor Style

I think most people would agree with that, especially the “Perfect for…the dads…can actually get away with
corny jokes” part of the description. Many people have told me I have “daddy humor…” Well, I guess it could be worse :-)

Voltron on the Big Screen

You’ve heard the rumors about a new He-Man movie and a live-action Transformers movie… Now, Yahoo reports that Voltron: Defender of the Universe is coming to the big screen!

Read more about it: Voltron morphs into movie

No word if it’ll be live action or animated yet, but it’s being produced by Mark Gordon, whose credits include of The Day After Tomorrow, Speed, and Saving Private Ryan.

I wish I still had all my toys from when I was younger!

Skateboards and Dumpster Trucks

Lost in Rooville
A “deep” thought from Lost in Rooville… Let me set it up first, though. Ransom, a surfer dude, is talking to Jay, a former stock broker who until recently did mission work with orphans in the jungles of Ecuador. Jay has been summoned to a lawyer’s office and fears that he is getting sued because he can’t pay a debt he incurred when he blew up a burnt orange Jeep while stuck in the middle of the Outback. He’s recently engaged and doesn’t have much income since he’s in missions, so he’s worried about what’s going to happen. Ransom tries to calm Jay’s fears with these “profound” words of wisdom.

“Dude, picture yourself on a skateboard, on top of a steep, paved hill in a busy city, like San Francisco. And you’re flying down the hill and you’re in your tuck and the wheels are clattering on the pavement, when eighty feet below, a dumpster truck comes rolling across the street. Can you picture it?”

“I picture it.”

“Now, what do you do?”

“Skin my knee really bad?”

“No, you stay in your tuck and go straight for the rolling dumpster.”

“Down the Frisco hill and toward the dumpster…”

“Exactly. And do you know why?”

“Tell me. My knees already hurt.”

“Because by the time you get there the obstacle will have moved. Only if you try to outmaneuver the obstacle will you go splat.”

Shuttle Launch

As some of you have heard, the space shuttle Discovery was successfully launched today, America’s first trip back to space since the Columbia explosion two and a half years ago. Anyone watch the liftoff? I didn’t see it live, but have seen some video clips since, and am simply awed by it. If you haven’t yet watched it, CNN has you covered: Shuttle Launch

Discovery Launch

Again I’ll say it…wow! Imagine all the things that have to go right during a launch, not to mention once they get to space. All the technology, ingenuity, parts, etc…

This launch has had more attention that just about any other, and because of not wanting a repeat of the Challenger and Columbia explosions, there were hundreds of cameras on and around the shuttle during the launch, views which we previously haven’t had. In fact, once in space, the shuttle will do a first-ever flip so that the occupants of the space station can photograph the underside and inspect it for damage. The shuttle is also equipped with a boom and attached laser which will scan the wings and other parts of the ship looking for damage. They really are taking no chances this time around. Unfortunately, they had to learn from experience. Space flight is unforgiving and doesn’t give second chances for mistakes.

So far, everything seems to have gone okay with the launch, though NASA is examining some video of debris that fell off during the launch. Read more about the safety procedures and plans for Discovery and it’s 12 day stay in space at Space.com.

CNet.com’s Top 10 Web Fads

CNet.com lists the Top 10 Web fads. Boy, some of these bring back memories – including some that I don’t want to remember…

Here’s the Top 10 list in a nutshell. Check out CNet.com for more details about each one.

  1. Hampsterdance
  2. Mahir
  3. All your Base are Belong to Us
  4. Dancing Baby
  5. Hot or Not
  6. Friendster
  7. Ellen Feiss
  8. Star Wars Kid
  9. Blogger
  10. JibJab

Ugh, Hampster dance…I remember the summer of 1999 when I worked at a computer camp for kids 6-16 and all I heard was that stupid song.

I still remember the first time I saw that dancing baby on Ally McBeal.

Believe it or not, Hot or Not is still around and going strong. It’s now been hooked up with Google Maps.

Aren’t fads something that comes on strong for a while, hits the spotlight “big” if you will, and then disappears? Blogger, JibJab and Friendster don’t seem like “fads” to me. I would classify Xanga or MySpace as more of a fad than Blogger, though they haven’t gone away. Actually, Geocities was probably more of a fad than either of those, now that it’s mainly been replaced be the blogging craze. I’d be tempted to put You Don’t Know Jack on that list, too. How many hours did I waste playing that online, before they started charging for it and putting it out mass produced. Nothing like the original with David Spade, though.

Anyone else have memories on these fads, or something else they would put on the list?
