Dreaming of Vacation
So…I’m sitting here at work, bored to death (well, I have things to do, I’m just EXTREMELY unmotivated today), and dreaming of my upcoming vacation from work. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to take a week long trip somewhere “exotic” like I did last year. ..
For those of you who don’t know, my friend Carrie and I went to the Pacific Northwest last July. Let me tell you, that trip was fantastic! Not only was it great to get away from the office for 9 days, but the scenery was magnificent and the whole week was very relaxing. I tell ya, for someone who uses computers constantly like I do, one of the best parts of the trip was being away from one the whole time. Weird, eh?
We started off the trip by flying into Seattle. We spent a couple days in this city on the bay, checking out the Space Needle, Pike Place Market, and the city in general, before heading up to Canada. Vancouver and Whistler, both in British Columbia, Canada, had some spectacular scenery. Waterfalls everywhere! Mountains on one side, the ocean on the other!
From there, we ventured back into the US, taking the scenic route through the Cascade Mountains to the “Apple Capital of the World,” Wenatchee,WA before heading on to Mt Rainier, my favorite destination on this trip. Mt Rainier is by far one of the most beautiful places that I’ve ever been. I could have sat on a rock by this river for hours and hours. It was so peaceful and relaxing. The rush of the water, the spray of the rapids, the soothing sounds…ahhh…
Next, we headed on down to Mt St Helens. The amount of destruction still evident was amazing, but seeing how nature is slowly recovering from this disaster is remarkable. From there, we stopped by Portland, Oregon on the way out to the coast. We stopped at a beach before heading up coastal route 101 and back to Seattle, and back home.
Because of finances, I won’t be able to take a “big” trip like that this year, but I’m hoping to head on down to Red River Gorge or Gatlinburg for some camping and hiking. It’ll be nice to get out in the Great Outdoors, away from technology and the hectic pace that often consumes us any more.
Ok, now that I’m really ready for a vacation, I guess it’s time to get back to “work.” *sigh*

Yeah, I was really dreaming about a week in Cyrpus. I’m so sad I couldn’t re-arrange my ticket. But I guess Kenya is exotic enough… but it won’t really be like a vacation so much.
Today at lunch we were all talking about traveling. It makes me want to sell everything I have so I can have money to travel with. I could start with my CDs and DVDs… want to buy any used movies or music? haha
Bummer that you can’t go to Cyprus. I’m sure you’ll have just as good a time in Kenya, even if it’s not really the vacation that you were hoping for. At least you get to go overseas.
I know what you mean about selling everything and just traveling the world, especially after hearing stories from people who have been overseas.
I feel so tied down and restricted now that I’m a home owner. Enjoy the freedom while you can…
Don’t forget about our hiking trip. That’ll count as a mini-vacation.
in 2 years we can take a roadtrip Chris, I’ll drive of course
